LEAD Summit Review
Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in the Points of Light / HandsOn Network LEAD Summit in downtown Washington DC. Speakers included Rich Harwood, founder of the Harwood Institute; Allison Fine, author and social change connoisseur, and Heather Mansfield, social media expert. James “JB” Brown, AARP Brand Ambassador for Community and Host of CBS’ NFL Today and Showtime’s Inside the NFL moderated an engaging discussion during lunch and Jessica Yellin, CNN, participated in a panel discussion at the end of the day. People from all over the country traveled to the city to participate in this unique opportunity.
Following the summit, nonprofit, entertainment, athletic, and political leaders joined together to celebrate the first anniversary of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. Actress Gabrielle Union, comedian Michael Jr., CNCS CEO Patrick Corvington, POLI/HON CEO Michelle Nunn, and congressmen from Iowa and North Carlina were a few of the great speakers who shared their visions for service and volunteering.
The LEAD Summit was a great opportunity to learn and share best practices within the nonprofit world. I ran into a few fellow HandsOn Corps members at the event and everyone seemed to enjoy their experience. The work we all do is making a big difference in the lives of others.
Happy National Volunteer Week!
